Celebrating autism in Greater Manchester

Only 22% of autistic adults are in some kind of paid employment, yet 77% of unemployed autistic adults want to work. Autistic employees may need some, often simple, support within the workplace, yet widespread understanding, support and accommodation by employers is still lacking. Despite workplaces becoming more inclusive, and despite the Equality Act 2010, for autistic adults, there are still some barriers preventing them from working.

Accessing support at work

Many people with ASC are in work and many more want to work, but research tells us that only 22% are in paid employment whilst 77% want to work. Yet support for ASC individuals in employment does exist but many people just don’t know about it.

What is a Workplace Needs Assessment?

We’ve put together a guide to accessing support at work. A workplace needs assessment is carried out where an individual has a disability. Whilst many with ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) may not feel that they are disabled, Autism is included under legal disability protections along with other neurodiversities such as dyslexia, ADHD, dyspraxia, etc.
