How You Can Support Us

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill

Giving to charities, philanthropy, has a long history in the UK and has played a vital role in shaping the society we live in. Our oldest registered charities date back centuries, to 597AD, with the establishment of  The King’s School, Canterbury.

Many of these earliest charities were founded by concerned individuals to help those in need in society, usually to address dire poverty, want and disease. Today there are a dizzying array of causes from which to choose. However, the nature of charitable giving may have changed a lot in the last centuries as society has evolved, but it is just as important as it ever was.

Like many charities, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a financial impact on I AM. Yet throughout this time we have continued to provide support to individuals with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) who have experienced great challenges. We have continued to run our information and helpline supporting many ASC individuals and their families. We receive many hundreds of calls and emails. We have provided free Zoom support sessions to prevent individuals feel isolated. We have been a constant in a sea of uncertainty for many.

Now though, more than ever, we also need your support to ensure that we can continue to support ASC individuals and their families through the recovery of the pandemic.

In the UK, around 50% of adults donate to charity meaning we have one of the highest giving levels of any country in the world. Since most charities don’t receive any money from the government, donations from individuals are the most important source of funding for a charity to carry out its work.

Donating to charity can even provide some tax benefits. You can pay less Income Tax by deducting the value of your donation to I AM from your total taxable income?. If you complete a Self-Assessment tax return, add the amount you’re claiming in the ‘Charitable giving’ section of the form.

All personal donations to I AM are also eligible for Gift Aid for basic rate taxpayers. This means that we can reclaim the tax on your support at no extra cost to you, and increase the value of your gift by 25%. You just need to be a UK taxpayer and pay UK income or capital gains tax to the value we will claim on your donation.

You can make a single declaration to cover all past, present, and future donations by just completing our gift aid form or by making the declaration online should you chose to donate through our virgin giving platform here: web link.

The knowledge that you are helping others is hugely empowering and satisfying. By donating to I AM you are supporting people in a way that has a direct and positive impact.
