A Step Forward for Accessibility at I AM

Sometimes the most important changes arenโ€™t the loudest ones – theyโ€™re the ones that quietly open doors.

We are proud to announce that we have installed a brand-new accessible ramp at the I AM Resource Centre on Chester Road. Itโ€™s a simple addition on the surface, but in reality, it represents something much bigger: dignity, independence, and true inclusion.

This project was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire, via Cheshire Freemasons, who fully funded the installation. Their contribution has removed a physical barrier – and with it, a psychological one too.

Why This Matters

Accessibility isn’t a ‘nice to have.’ It’s the baseline.

For many of the autistic individuals and families we support, feeling comfortable and confident entering a space is everything. If the first step – literally – is a challenge, it can stop someone attending altogether. This ramp changes that. It says clearly:

Youโ€™re welcome here. No caveats. No conditions.

And that aligns perfectly with what we stand for at I AM.

More Than Just a Ramp

This isnโ€™t just about improved access – itโ€™s about opportunity:

  • Easier entry means more people can attend our groups and activities
  • It creates a more inclusive environment for individuals with mobility needs
  • It reinforces our commitment to being a space where everyone belongs

Itโ€™s a practical change with a powerful ripple effect.

Watch the Story

Our CEO, Nick Foster, has captured the moment in a short video, sharing what this means for I AM and the people we support. It finishes with a simple but powerful message:

โ€œWeโ€™re always open.โ€

And we mean that – in every sense of the word.

Thank You

To the Cheshire Freemasons: this wasnโ€™t just a donation. It was an investment in people, in access, and in community. Weโ€™re genuinely grateful.
