Why I’m Running | Debra

Introduction

Helen Boden (CEO) and Dr Debra Bradley (Trustee) are really going the extra mile for I AM Celebrating Autism in Greater Manchester on the 3rd of October, 2021. They are both undertaking the Virtual London Marathon to raise funds to support the work that we do. Please show Debra your support by donating money at Virgin Money Giving link button below.

Why I’m doing the Virtual London Marathon

I’m entering the virtual London marathon to raise money for I AM.  I’m definitely not a marathon runner so will be walking the 26.2-mile marathon distance! My route will start at my home in south Manchester and go via the city centre and Salford Quays to end at the I AM building in Stretford.

I AM is a UK registered charity working with and supporting a wide range of people, aged 10 years and upwards, who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (which can also be called Asperger Syndrome, High Functioning Autism or Autistic Spectrum Disorder) as well as their families, guardians and carers in Greater Manchester.

I’ve been a trustee for I AM for the past 4 years.  Before I retired I worked in child and adolescent mental health services so I understand that people with autism can be socially isolated and feel that they don’t fit in.  I also know that the great work that I AM does help people with autism.  By providing group and social activities as well as one to one support I AM offers a community where people with autism and their families can feel understood and supported.

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” (Theodore Roosevelt)
